......................... WELCOME TO MY ON-GOING PROJECT ......................

Should you have anything to add or corrections to make please let me know

FURTHER study of Celia Greengrass my 2xgreat grandmother and wife of Thomas Jonas;
In 1841 Celia was living in Stibbard with son Thomas who was born blind. Celia was sharing a house with Robert Tebble who was future husband William Rix's father in law.
Since Celia seems likely to have known William Rix since 1841 then it must be possible he was the father of ALL Celia's illegitimate children. Odd that Henry 1843 (who wasn't named as illegitimate) should have the same name as Robert Tebble's father, Henry and Henry had a son called Henry who died 1840!!!!

...........Thanks to all those who have freely exchanged information........... 2021 Still picking away and adding information. Somewhat limited as I had a heart attack in 2018 and 3 strokes in 2019 so can no longer drive due to eyesight loss. Good job we have the Internet. 2016 Retired in February and rediscovered my passion for angling, so family history has been side- lined somewhat.
2015 Came and went in a blur. Tons of new stuff found out.
 2014
My intention this year is to seek more in-depth detail, where possible,of the folk contained herein. Made a good start;see George Fisher 1827 Norwich!
One person I would love to find out about is Ursula?,my 7xgreat grandmother, wife of Nicholas Parker. At least 50 trees on ancestry.co.uk have this lady as Ursula Twiddy....arrant nonsense,as methodical research demonstrates(see Ursula's page). This is the result of endless copying of other folks trees, without checking.
No doubt we have a meme at work here!

November 2013
 LATEST NEWS
Jabez Moore 1884 FOUND!See Jabez' page for details.

2013 General news.
I've added my distant "cousin" the late musician/singer/songwriter Warren Zevon to the tree. Doubtless we all have a connection, even if not found,to someone famous or notorious and I've only added Mr Zevon to my tree to see if it ellicits a response from anyone else who has him on their tree.
He appears on many trees that I've seen and ALL have a blindingly obvious mistake in his Ancestry! No doubt much of this is due to the endless copying of other people trees to try and get the biggest tree in the World, perhaps?
I've also "solved" a mystery regarding my Osborne Ancestors. All down to the bizarre spellings of the surname,as mentioned later in this introduction. On this occasion the name is rendered as "Osband".
 2012
Latest research has thrown up the intriguing possibility that several branches of my Norwich Ancestors were possibly of Dutch or Flemish/Walloon origin.
The very earliest spelling,in Parish Records,of the name Dye that I've found is Deye, which is of Dutch origin.Bayes or Bays is certainly Flemish/Walloon,(albeit it also evolved seperately in England)and in fact Bayes or Bays was a type of cloth weave made by the Dutch and Flemish weavers of Norwich. Debair and Jekes are also names that seem to have a Continental origin. Of course, there was a massive influx of refugee European Protestants into Norwich during the latter part of the 16th Century and this continued into the 17th Century,to the point where, according to some sources, they represented about one third of the population. It does seem anyone with Norwich Ancestors is likely to have some of these folk, somewhere,in their past.
 2011
Latest news is that with the advent of Warwickshire Parish Records coming on line at Ancestry I've been able to upload even more Parish Register scans and offer "proof" for much of my tree. Russell Turner and I have collaborated on our Benson/White Ancestors and have progressed these lines(with near certainty) back a further couple of generations and we're still working on it. The latter part of 2010 and the early part of this year had produced some very interesting contacts.
I've "met" a couple of Jonas "half-cousins",a Rix and Mary Shail who descends from my Jonas grandad's sister Emily.
My cousin Stephen Powers has passed on some info.on our long lost uncle Jabez Moore and I've updated my notes on him.If you are a Moore,Harwood or Powers you'll know the story of Jabez!! I've also added a few new photo's and several hundred scans of Parish Register entries. I offer no guarantee to the accuracy of any information contained here, indeed I advise you to check original Records for yourself, many are attached to the relevant folk. I've encountered several trees which give different versions of the lineage of some of my Ancestors. Some may well be correct and mine wrong. Some other trees I've seen are "provably" wrong.

Special thanks to Marion Lewis for her help and expertise in getting me started in April 2007.Pete Lee and Keith Howell for their help when I got stuck on the Eggletons,Phyllis House and Helena Mitchell for their Moore photographs and Shirley James in Australia for her Tebble/Jonas information and marvellous photographs.
My long lost "cousin",Norma McIntyre, again from Australia has sent me in-depth information about my Crick Ancestors from her years of research, and super photo's. Wonderful detail, especially the Military career of my 4xgreat grandfather (3x for her) Philip Crick 1783.Thanks Norma!!!
I had lots of new contacts in 2010,the most sigificant, from the research perspective, being Alex King, from sunny California and John Spurr. Alex and I have collaborated on our Dye Ancestors and John has blown some of the totally accepted "facts" about our early Parkers out of the water!! Much frantic tree revision and Record searching on-going.....thanks John, great eye for detail. Roger Youngs has also reviewed his earlier work on the Parkers and has come up with plenty of "new","evidence".
We now all seem to be in broad agreement regarding our early Parkers, albeit with a few bones of contention.
I'm steadily adding sources for my research to individuals ( oh how I wish I'd done this from the start) and to this end I've added, and am adding more, photographs of Birth,Marriage and Death Certificates and photographs of Parish Register entries. All are attached to the relevent person(s) or you can view the lot en masse in the "Certificates and Registers" album(s) in the "photo" section.
I have charged off on my favourite steed "Tangent" on occasion, because I keep encountering interesting people, who are fairly peripheral to my main lines of enquiry which are my Jonas and Harwood Ancestors.Inevitably,as my connection with the Jonas line doesn't carry far (have a look to see more) much of my research has been into my Paternal Grandmother and Great Grandmother's lines. I've included much of my research into my 2xgreat grandmother Celia Jonas'(Greengrass) 2nd husband William Rix 1813,who is the most likely(currently only)suspect to be the father of of my great grandfather Albert Jonas 1862.
My research into my Nelson and Crick ancestors is very much "work in progress",some of it I am reasonably sure of,some is speculative. With so many given names shared by successive generations, deaths especially, become difficult to assign. My Eggleton relatives appear to have been unusually fertile and healthy with a much higher than normal number reaching adulthood.Added to this the number of female Eggletons giving birth outside marriage means the name passed on through male and female lines. Through much of the 1800's the Eggletons made up about 15% of the total population of Stibbard and not much less in surrounding villages.
I've standardised the spelling of Eglington,Eglinton,Egleton and Eggleton.Although Eggleton appears to have been consistent only from about 1800 and as late as 1862 my great grandmother's birth was Registered as "Eglington",Eggleton is the "modern" version so this makes following a line back easier.I've added notes regarding the original spelling.
Similarly I've done the same with Dey,Deye and Dye,making the "modern" version Dye standard.Again I've added notes.
I've never encountered such a variation of spellings, for such an apparently straightford name,as I have with my Maternal Osborne Ancestors.Original documents from the early to mid 19th Century fairly consistently spell the name "Orsborn",though whether this is simply a reflection of the pronunciation, will I guess never be known.
My mother's side had been refreshingly "normal" but recent research has thrown up a lot of inter-marriage between my Moore/Duckett/Watson and Ambler Ancestors, which has made the research, well, interesting:
My great grandmother Lucy Duckett 1862 NAPTON "shared" Ann ? 1772 as great grandmother on both her mother and father's side.(Latest research suggests that she is in fact Ann Moseley)
It's frustrating that I know so little of this lady as she is my 4xgreat grandmother on two counts:
Her grandson Thomas Duckett 1839,son of her daughter Maria 1797 from her marriage to Charles Ambler 1772 married Eliza Turner 1842 daughter of her son Samuel Turner 1813,from her marriage to Thomas Turner 1770
Lucy's grandmother Maria Ambler 1797 was born in CHIPPENHAM.Her great grandfather John Duckett was born in FENNY COMPTON.
Lucy's husband John Moore 1857 was also born in NAPTON.His paternal grandmother Penelope Crook 1800 was born in KIDLINGTON.
The birthplaces of these widely spread Ancestors correspond chronologically with the time scale of the construction of the Oxford Canal.
That these branches of my ancestory were Canal boatmen or Navigators would offer a plausible explanation for the missing Baptisms and distant birthplaces.......ANY thoughts on this would be much appreciated!!!!!.
It's been fascinating "meeting" long lost "cousins",not least those from Australia,Canada,New Zealand,Sweden and the U.S.A.

You can also check out the "Useful Links" on the left of this Homepage. Most of the photo's of Norfolk and Suffolk Churches are from Simon Knott's marvellous sites, which aside from superb photo's have a wealth of detail regarding these Churches.Direct link is available in the "useful links" section at the top left of Homepage.

YEAR OVERLAP
Before 1752,the Ecclesiastical New Year began on 25 March (Lady Day). This means that, for example, the year 1700 would run from 25th March 1700 to 24th March 1701.Generally I've modernised dates.

Getting Around
There are several ways to browse the family tree. The Tree View graphically shows the relationship of selected person to their kin. The Family View shows the person you have selected in the center, with his/her photo on the left and notes on the right. Above are the father and mother and below are the children. The Ancestor Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph above and children below. On the right are the parents, grandparents and great-grandparents. The Descendant Chart shows the person you have selected in the left, with the photograph and parents below. On the right are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Do you know who your second cousins are? Try the Kinship Relationships Tool. Your site can generate various Reports for each name in your family tree. You can select a name from the list on the top-right menu bar.

In addition to the charts and reports you have Photo Albums, the Events list and the Relationships tool. Family photographs are organized in the Photo Index. Each Album's photographs are accompanied by a caption. To enlarge a photograph just click on it. Keep up with the family birthdays and anniversaries in the Events list.
